Preditors in Publishing

What I've noticed over the years is a disturbing trend, a sort of feeding frenzy that has taken over the Indie publishing industry that has grown in the past few years. Even staples like Amazon have made it harder for Indie books to succeed. What are some of the services, people, or "fee" driven programs you would advise authors to avoid?
