This group has been created to discuss the works of Virginia Woolf in its broadest sense. It helps new readers in finding their way in her works, it encourages familiar readers to keep reading and re-reading and offers a platform to discuss the many themes and literary devices used by Virginia Woolf. The readings tend to be slow to let the words sink in and take some time to contemplate and/or re-read some parts.

Photos

Monk's House, Rodmell, was the Woolfs' house from 1919 until their deaths. It was mainly a summer house and served as a refuge for Virginia Woolf from the busy city of London. Virginia Woolf set out from Monk's House on March 28, 1941 and drownded herself in the river Ouse. The son of ferrier still lived in Rodmell in 2005 when I took this picture being on a study trip to the village.

"Back from Monk's an hour ago, after the first weak end--the most perfect, I was going to say, but how can I tell what week ends we mayn't spend there...The first pure joy of the garden I mean. Wind enough outside; within sunny & sheltered; & weeding all day to finish the beds in a queer sort of enthusiam which made me say this is happiness.

The Sussex downs near Monk's House were often visited by Virginia Woolf. This picture was taken in 2005.

"Oh it's lovely on the downs here now--a dewpond like a silver plate in the hollow; and all the hills, not distinct as in summer, but vast, smooth, shaven, serene; and I lie on the ground and look; and the bells tinkle, and then the horses plough, and then, forgetting all the days to come and days past and this day and tomorrow..."
