I'm glad you're reading with us! How many times have you read In Search Of Lost Time, Marcelita?

message 3: by Joni (new)

Joni Cornell I found the comments from the group rather banal and so have decided to pursue reading Proust on my own...

Bat-Cat Hi Renato,

Yes, I am still reading ISOLT but this past month or so I have gotten behind - you know busy life and work stuff. Anyway, I plan to catch up and see this thing through. I have been keeping up with all of the comments though and congratulate you and Jonathan on your "promotions". I think you guys are doing a really super job. This is my very first book club and I have enjoyed being a quiet observer, at least until now. But who knows, I may yet find a voice and start participating - once I catch up that is. Thank you for checking with me. The Golden Frog - Diane

Sunny Reading with the group... sort of. I can't stick to just 60 pages a week - I want more. LOL! So, I read through a volume at my own pace - commenting on each "week's" reading if inspired, and then take a break between volumes to let the group catch up to me.

Joni: Thanks for the answer! Maybe you could help us step the comments up a notch? :)

TheGoldenFrog: I know how it is, sometimes I fall a little behind as well - work, life, and so many books I want to read! I'm glad you're enjoying Proust, though! I hope you do catch up soon and start participating. In my opinion, it's always interesting and enlightening to see what others will extract from a book, how they'll feel differently about the same passages, like different quotes, relate to different parts etc.. :)

Sunny: haha! At first I too felt 60 pages a week was too few pages. But it allowed me to tackle into other big books I've been wanting to read, like Don Quixote and War and Peace.

For me, it is the same. It is fun to follow the discussions.

Thanks to everyone for participating in the poll, it's interesting to see the results and everyone's comments. However members are using the group, whether they're participating in discussions, reading along or just dipping in every once in while, I hope you choose to stay for the rest of the journey.

If you're ahead of the reading schedule or behind then please feel free to add comments to the discussion threads as others may be at the same stage as yourselves.

I think that the discussions so far haven't included much on the art in Proust; if anyone wishes to add such comments then please feel free. As I have little knowledge, or interest, in visual arts I tend not to start such discussions myself but I would no doubt benefit from others' knowledge in this area, as at the moment I content myself with just checking the 'Paintings in Proust' book and moving on.

message 9: by Cosmic (new)

Cosmic Arcata I finished the first book and have not started the second one In A Budding Grove, (I believe). I would also be interested in the art works in Proust. I started reading Ulysses by James Joyce, who popularized the streams of consciousness. It has been interesting to compare these two people's work. After I get through with Ulysses I will start the next Proust. Thanks for the poll and reminder.

message 10: by David (new)

David Lentz I read all of Proust's 4300 pages a few years ago.
