I decided to define "classic" as any book first published over 50 years ago that is still in print. I know it's arbitrary but I figured it was as good a criterion as any and that no matter what method I choose, someone will argue that one of the books isn't really a classic.

If you are interested in nominating books for future months, please see the discussion topic on this book group.

Lorena I voted for Call of the Wild since I have it at home, however I've read 1984 in the past, it is one of my favortites and would love to discuss that as well.

message 3: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan I'm not voting just because I don't have time to read another book this summer. I'm overbooked these days.

I've already read over half of the books so if one of those I've read is selected and I remember enough to participate in a discussion, I will.

message 4: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Veldman I would love to re-read the adventures of Huckleberry Finn... My son is at that age where he would enjoy hearing it as our bedtime story and we're almost ready for a new book!!

message 5: by Marc (new)

Marc ok, ok...i'm cheating. I happen to be currently reading The Slaughterhouse 5 {wink}. But if you all pick Lolita, that works too...because I started it a few months ago and didn't finish it. That would give me an excuse to finish...and then to go on and finish reading "Reading Lolita in Tehran"

message 6: by William (new)

William Samples I never read Slaughterhouse 5, but loved the movie!

message 7: by Eva-Marie (new)

Eva-Marie Nevarez I've been meaning to read Lolita forever now so I voted for that! I hope it wins- I've heard great, great things about it!

message 8: by Julia (new)

Julia I intend to read Huckleberry Finn this summer anyway, but whatever the group picks is good. Many I've read and would like to reread. Others I've meant to read and haven't gotten around to yet.

message 9: by Margaret (new)

Margaret I've read Lolita, and Vonnegut is better.

We've got a few more days but I'm planning to have a short run off poll if the votes are fairly close.

message 11: by Katharine (new)

Katharine Klevinskas I voted for Native Son. I think I was supposed to read it in high school, but I think I never did. I was always very good at literature and could easily fake having read a book if all I had to do was write something up.
I see Lolita is in the lead. I just read it about a year ago and would happily discuss it again. Each of the books on the list looks interesting to me!!
