Anita Return to Yesterday and Infinity's Edge, by Kevin Emerson, time travel stories featuring the Robinsons from Netflix's Lost In Space series. They read like episodes that got cut, because the show's producers (I think) wanted to stay firmly in the sci-fi / space opera realm, and not delve into "fantasy." Middle grade.

I didn't know these existed wow. What's cool about this one is that it's not a book to show adaptation, it's actually a show to book adaptation because the books are based on the show and not the other way round. Still counts for our readathon though! I'll add only the 1st book though, if that's ok because if someone spins the wheel and gets the 2nd book without having read the 1st then it won't work for them.

You can still recommend more books though if you want to!

message 4: by Carla (new)

Carla Kessler I recommend Nerve by Jeanne Ryan. It is a timely novel where a game of dares become bolder and more absurd as society craves them. The movie stars Emma Roberts and Dave Franco.

message 5: by AurorainBookland (last edited Feb 18, 2022 10:39AM) (new)

AurorainBookland Gabby Duran and the Unsittables: The Beginning
by Daryle Conners, Elise Allen - Disney has a TV show inspired by the books this is books 1 and 2 in one book. Since its just inspired the book wont ruin the show and vice versa.

The authors even wrote book 4 as a show tie in Triple Trouble. But to understand whats going on you have to start at book 1.

Upside down magic book 1 - disney made a movie.

Artemis Fowl - Disney made a movie

Percy Jackson - author is working on a show where every book is a season

The Selection by Kira Cass - YA Netflix might make a movie the author approves of the script so far.

message 6: by Dalia (new)

Dalia I would like to nominate the following: Neil Gaiman-Coraline, Cornelia Funke- the Inkheart series, Madeleine L"Engle- A wrinkle in Time series, and finally Rachael Lippincott- Five Feet Apart.

message 7: by Pearl (new)

Pearl 1. A series of unfortunate events (Netflix)
2. One of Us is Lying (forgot where - oof)

Matal “The Mischling Princess” Baker 1) DUNE (1965) by Frank Herbert is not my favorite book, but my son loves it (and the entire series). It was made into a film in 1984, into a film series in 2000, and once again was made into a film in 2021.

2) One of my all-time favorites is PLANET OF THE APES (1963) by Pierre Boulle. It was made into a film in 1968.

3) Next I would definitely add Aldous Huxley’s BRAVE NEW WORLD (1932). The novel was adapted so many times for television and film that I can’t name them all here.

Oh, yes! Anything and everything written by Jane Austen and adapted for both tv and film! In addition to Pride and Prejudice:

1) Sense and Sensibility
2) Northanger Abbey
3) Mansfield Park
4) Persuasion
5) Emma

Austen’s unpublished/unfinished novels that were adapted to film and tv series:
1) Lady Susan (film: Love & Friendship, 2016)
2) Sanditon

I read the book and then watched the movie a couple of years back and it was great, the book moreso than the movie. I’ll add it above for you. You can recommend some more books too if you want.

For number 2 that’s Netflix! It just came out a couple of days ago!
Also thanks for listing where they're from, I'll be making a whole spreadsheet for all the movies and shows to help people find it. I’ll add them both for you above.

I shall add them above! I've recently been thinking about the Planet of the Apes remake trilogy and have been wanting to watch it so maybe I finally will now! Also my friend loves Dune and I need to watch it already.

For the Jane Austen adaptations you listed, I can add 1 of them above as your 4th recommendation if you'd like. For the rest of them you can mention them on the discussion page here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... if you'd like so people can know about it.

Aah The Host! What an absolute throwback! I went to watch it in the cinemas with my cousin's wife and she was mortified because I was like 11 and it was waaay YA😂
Spiderwick Chronicles is a series I looove and I loved the movie too. Did you know Disney have confirmed they're making a Spiderwick Chronicle series? The casting calls have begun! More on this and other upcoming MG adaptations in the discussion page: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Cool! I loved those books.

The Dragon Prince on Netflix has companion books and graphic novels with more graphic novels on the way.
Book one Moon season 1 extra scenes
Book two Sky season 2 extra scenes
Through the moon graphic novel after season 3 before season 4
My fave show and its really good! Diverse characters, deaf strong woman, gay couple.

I loved the Spiderwick movie! I took my son and his cousin when they were really young and I ended up liking it more than them…lol. I have never read the books though. And OMG I didn’t know Holly Black was one of the authors!
No I did not know it was going to be a series! I will be watching. 😁

Did you hear that the second TDP graphic novel is coming out soon? It has this pretty red cover!

Yeah Holly Black was the author and Tony Diterlizzi illustrated the books! The books are super short so you could read all 5 in one day which I like to do every couple of years because it's a solid, fun read and really nostalgic for me. I remember we went to watch it in the cinemas and it made such an impression on me. Such a fantastic concept!

Only books that have already been adapted are allowed for our book list but I am planning on writing a bit about upcoming MG adaptations on the group discussion page. I've never read that series but I'm intrigued. Netflix have been fairly quiet about the whole project even though it's coming out this year. I think Netflix has the absolute worst advertising and marketing strategies lol

All these different adaptations make me wonder how I should make this spreadsheet I was planning on doing to help people find the adaptations better. Some books have show adaptations AND movie adaptations!
I'm wondering if I should even do the spreadsheet. I want to do it to be helpful but don't want to make it if no one is planning to watch the adaptations🤔

message 36: by Audrey (new)

Audrey There are dozens of film versions of A Christmas Carol and at least three And Then There Were None. List a book with all its adaptions? Or book only?

message 37: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen I finally picked my options for this. It was actually really hard because I noticed that I actually read a lot of books with adaptations. I guess I make those more of a priority than I thought. Here are the four that I narrowed down:

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
The whole trilogy just finished and it's all on Netflix. I read the first one and watched the first one but I never finished it. My friends have been dying for me to finish it so we can watch the last two movies together XD

Speak
Absolutely love this book! It's such an important book to read. Trigger warning for sexual assault though. This is a heavy book. There is also a graphic novel of this if you want to read that and I also think it's very good. I think Kristen Stewart was in this movie? I've never seen the movie so I don't know where to find it but I think it's time I watch the movie.

Pretty Little Liars
Now this is my whole identity. I am a big fan of Pretty Little Liars the show and the series. I finally got one of my friends to read the series and now I kinda want to reread it. The show used to be available on Netflix but since HBO Max is making a (unnecessary) reboot of the show, it has been moved to HBO Max. I can understand if no one wants to read the entire series but I think the first 8 books are the original series. Also, my favorite seasons from the show are the first two seasons. Highly recommend!

The Darkest Minds
I absolutely love this trilogy! Definitely one of the best dystopians to come out during the dystopian craze. Now I haven't heard that many good things about the movie but I still want to watch it. Consider me curious. XD But I highly recommend the trilogy overall. Not sure where to find the movie because I also haven't watched it.

Hope you all enjoy my recommendations!
