Catherine Hutchison asked Jacqueline Winspear:

Thank you for sharing Maisie with me.. she has gotten me through some tough times. I am interested in her connection to the gypsies who were at the hop picking. Do gypsies, Roma, whatever you care to call this group have a big part in English history? Will they resurface in Masie's life? It seems like such a strong connection for her.

Jacqueline Winspear The gypsies described in AN INCOMPLETE REVENGE had quite an important part in British history. Of course, gypsies today are not of the same ilk, however, there was another significant influx from eastern Europe in the early 1900's - and soon their mode of dress, for example, and their way of life found expression in the more creative people of the day - hence a generation of young writers and artists were known as "Bohemians" given the colorful dress and lifestyle they adopted. I don't think gypsies will resurface in Maisie's life now - but you never know!
