Swapna Rajput asked Jennifer Ryan:

What is your favorite Genre?

Jennifer Ryan I love historical fiction. I feel like it runs on an extra dimension: time. So the plotline still runs in the same way as a contemporary novel, but it has an added layer of interest, an extra secret weapon.
As a writer, it comes into its own when everyone knows what's going to happen, and you can really play on that. As a rather sinister example, in The Chilbury Ladies' Choir, the Jewish evacuee from Prague believes her parents will join her after the war, while the readers know that, tragically, they will most likely perish in the Holocaust. It presents a horrific irony, that wouldn't have been present at the time.
And I love researching the past. Reading first-hand accounts of how women's voices changed through the war, and how their experience of freedom and adventure and danger broadened unprecedentedly, made me long to write the book. It's simply a story that needs to be told.
