My question has to do with the Holmes and Moriarity series: JX is a former SFPD officer, but why did he leave the force?

Josh Lanyon I think he does address this a bit in The Boy With the Painful Tattoo. I believe there's a conversation with Kit at a roadhouse where JX discusses how seeing the dark side of humanity wears on you. And I think at some point he talks about taking unwilling part in a cop-assisted suicide, which had a profound impact on him.
