Was there historical inspiration for your Yukon trading agent character named Mr Troyer? My uncle, Will Troyer, was a wildlife biologist in Alaska for many years, but I hadn't heard of any family members in Alaska prior to that.

What a fun coincidence! To be honest, although there were trading agents in Alaska at that time, I invented the specific character and randomly chose his name. I can't remember how I came across it. Sometimes I leaf through a phone book when I'm searching for a character name, other times I pick names off the spines of my research books. I wish I could remember how I found it -- but thank you for the great question!
