Many years ago, my wife and I were returning from France after a booze buying trip. We were perhaps 15 miles from home, driving along empty country roads at around 3 am, when we both saw a green light in the sky. It remained motionless for a while and then suddenly shot towards the ground. It was a good few miles away and we saw nothing more. But it would be a great starting point for a plot.
