Goodreads asked Jennifer Ryan:

What mystery in your own life could be a plot for a book?

Jennifer Ryan I had an existentialist crisis when I was in my twenties, a deep-seated quest to find meaning and depth, and I think it would make a great book, although a very different one to Chilbury. That said, there are elements of philosophy in The Chilbury Ladies' Choir that hark back to that stage in my life, especially some of Prim's thoughts about the world and how we fit in. What a fascinating question.
