Janice Armstrong
Janice Armstrong asked Joey W. Hill:

Hi Joey' I love your books. I may be one of the oddities of this world; I read my books on an ereader that is not a Kindle, a nook or a Kobo or a tablet. With the demise of the Publisher 'AllRomance" this means your ebooks are no longer available to those of us who refuse to use the above mentioned ereaders/sellers. Do you have any plans to publish with other venues such as Smashwords? PLEASE!! Jan

Joey W. Hill Hi, Janice! I'm so delighted you enjoy my work. I really wish I could say "yes" to this, since I always like to give my readers what they need. While you can buy directly from Smashwords, it's a lot like CreateSpace. Their main purpose is to provide a distribution service to the vendors you listed. So authors use Smashwords when they might not have the resources or desire to handle the formatting/upload of books to the third party vendors like Amazon, Nook, etc. Smashwords does that for them, and in turn the author pays them a royalty percentage. We did that with our first two self-pubs (Elusive Hero and Scientific Method) but after that, my husband took over the uploading directly to the vendors. Right now, Nook, Kobo, iBooks and Amazon are the vendors that distribute the books, but if another outfit like ARe raises its head, we would certainly take a look at them. And of course the books with Penguin Putnam (many of the Vampire Queen series, Naughty Bits/Wishes, etc) are under their distribution control and I don't believe they use Smashwords either, likely for the reasons noted above. So sorry I couldn't have a better answer for you! But I hope you do continue to enjoy my books. Regardless, I appreciate your kind words about them!
