Goodreads asked H.A. Robinson:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

H.A. Robinson It was a combination of things, really. I've always loved the idea of writing a novel about teenagers, but I wanted them to be real. So often teenagers in books are portrayed in a very adult way, not just in the way they speak but the way they behave as well. I wanted to write something that dealt with how miserable being a teenager can really be. How much those new hormones can mess with your head, leaving you laughing and happy one minute, and angry and scared the next.

The storyline about Abbi's grandmother, Nonna, came about from my own personal experience of watching my Nana succumb to the most horrific disease, Alzheimer's. I wanted to write it not just as a tribute to her and what she went through, but also with the hope that it would give support to people going through the same.
