Bailey Poolman
Bailey Poolman asked Elly Blake:

Hello! I haven't had the chance to read your first novel, Frostblood, but it's sitting on my bookshelf as we speak! It looks so amazing! I was wondering what the process is for you to be published. How long does it usually take you to write a manuscript and how long to edit and revise? Also, how long was it till you found someone willing to publish your work?

Elly Blake This timeframe varies widely among authors. For me, the process of getting published took several years, several unfinished manuscripts, a few months to write my debut and about a year to edit the first book (with several rounds of edits to try to fix things mentioned in rejections.) Each new stage is a learning process. Early books often take longer to write because you're learning so much about the craft of writing all at once.

For more info on publishing, I always recommend YA author Susan Dennard's blog, which is a treasure trove of information on both the craft and business side of writing.

(Note: Her one-page synopsis method is the only one I use and I highly recommend it if you ever need to write a synopsis.)

Happy writing and good luck!
