Liz C asked Kate Quinn:

What has made you move into the 20th century for inspiration for your new novel? Your Roman and Borgia books are excellent and I would think there are more interesting characters you could write about from the early and medieval period.

Kate Quinn I'm not done with the ancient world or the Renaissance by any means--I'd love to set more books there. But I've never been a one-era writer, and have always had ideas that spanned everything from Imperial Rome to the modern day. When I saw the recent boom in 20th century war fiction, it made sense to investigate some of those more recently-set ideas, do some digging around, and see if inspiration struck. It definitely did, and the result was THE ALICE NETWORK.
