Are John and Dave based/loosely based on actual people or yourself?

David Wong In the early 2000s, me and fellow Cracked editor Mack Leighty used to write comedy first-person as a pair of fictional characters, David Wong and John Cheese. The first few chapters of JDATE appeared on that website (this was years before I took the job at Cracked or was getting paid to write at all) and I just did it in that same format.

"John" shares some mannerisms with Mack and lots of his lines are things Mack said in real life, David bears no resemblance to me or anyone else I know, thankfully. Mainly the two were created specifically to play off each other -- the exuberant, adventurous party dude and the cynical, sullen friend, both of them destined to fail at life.
