Goodreads asked Josh Lanyon:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Josh Lanyon I'm not sure there's ever one single thing that sparks the idea for a book. It's usually a combination of current interests and the flotsam and jetsam of research for other or abandoned projects, plus what I'm reading, watching, listening to.

For Stranger on the Shore, the idea began to percolate after I saw a documentary called The Imposter. The new film The Great Gatsby was being released around then. My Goodreads group was discussing Brat Farrar...lots of little cues from the Cosmos and all at once I knew the story I wanted to write.
