I did enjoy both your Africa books. I've always wanted to go to the Congo. Tell a lie I spent five minutes standing in a field in eastern Congo just over the border and a short bicycle ride away from Arua. I alwys travel light and I was wondering if you were to travel of the beaten track in Congo would you lug around a laptop again or just put a Black and Red notebook and biro in your back pocket?

Thanks for your response. That is my perception as well and we are working with local CSOs in the DRC. DRC appears to be cracking down on both international and national CSOs and IP organizations when it comes to forest monitoring and governance. Donor countries want to engage DRC but have no ability or maybe willingness to control governance, corruption and enforcement.?

I am currently reading Blood River and loving it. Your writing is superb. I don't read a lot of non-fiction, but I had just finished a book about Zimbabwe and was left wanting more. I knew something about this from Kingsolver's The Poisonwood Bible. I have also read Alexandra Fuller's memoirs. I am fascinated by Africa and its history. Can you recommend other memoirs about Africa? s
