My short and sweet advice for aspiring writers is to work at it as if you have already signed the contract, which means, intently and with passion. Most times, that first book won't sell right away, which means you have to have a second ready to go. Finding someone who will read and appreciate your work before publication is priceless and worth getting over your shyness for. Trust me on this.
