My best girlfriend & I devoured The Serpent King and are now reading - and thoroughly loving - The Goodbye Days. We are both moms in our 50's who have lost children and so you what you have to say about grief is especially compelling to us. Can I ask why you have dealt with grief in both of your books? Your portrayals seem far too accurate to be simply observations of grief in others...
Jeff Zentner
First of all, Linda, thank you from the bottom of my heart. It means the world to me to connect with a reader like you.
There's a very simple reason I've dealt with grief in my books: it frightens me. I've lost very few people in my life and I'm afraid my luck is going to run out. I have this quirk where if I'm afraid of something, I have to confront it. So GOODBYE DAYS and THE SERPENT KING are the only way I know how to ride out and meet grief in the field.

Hi Mr Zentner. First of all I want to thank you for writing The Serpent King. I read it in one day and I was deeply moved. I had the "panda look" from 70% in the book. You made me smile, rage, cry... My question for you now: I think it's your first book and it's been recently published but is there any chance it would be translated in French? My kids dont read in English (yet) and they would love your book!

Hi! I just finished your book last night. I pulled an all nighter to finish. It was very beautifully written and moved me to tears. I can't wait for your next book. You've probably all ready gotten requests for a sequel. I would love to find out what became of Dill and Lydia. But I'm also curious about what happened to Dill's parents and Travis's father. Could Dill's mother finally see her husband for what he was?
