Should I read the whole of the Starbound trilogy (i.e. 1, 2 and 3) before reading 'This Night So Dark' (1.5)? Or should I read it in the order (1, 1.5, 2, 3).

Meagan Spooner TNSD (Starbound 1.5) was intended to be read in between book one and book two. It isn't necessary to do so, but you do learn a bit about certain characters who show up later, and a little of what happens after the end of book one. All other things being equal, I would suggest reading them in the following order: 1, 1.5, 2, 3.
