I didn't realize that publishers chose what you write about; ie. Midnight series. Is that usually the way it works? It sure seems like a lot of people ask if you will continue the series and you always say "My publishers haven't requested anymore." I thought authors chose their subject matter?

Charlaine Harris Yes, I can choose my subject matter, but Penguin Random House has first option on those characters. If they don't want any more books, I don't get paid. I am writing other books that I will get paid for. That's the business I'm in.

Hi Mrs. Harris. I am an avid fan, have read almost all of your books. I noticed an answer to a recent question about the Midnight series, "I'm so glad you enjoyed the books, but my publisher has not asked me for another one.". I have a dream of writing, plan on doing so; but don't you have those little twinges that make you want to write about those wonderful characters with or without request?
