Your characters all seem to spring already developed onto the page! Have they been living in your head for a long time before they find the light of day? And related to this.. do you think your characters are a little reflection of some part of YOU? (Some, perhaps, not all...)
M.C.A. Hogarth
Some characters are olllllld, very very old, and have been around a long time. (I'm looking at you, Jahir and Vasiht'h. And you too, Alysha.) Some just coalesce when I'm writing and I think, 'Oh hey, hi 2 u!' And then I want to keep them around because they're interesting people. So I guess the answer to the first part of your question is 'sometimes'?
Life, why u so complicated. >.>
As for part two of your question, I think all art is a reflection of its creator, so in that sense, everything I write, characters included, is part of me. Those characters are also a part of everyone I meet and everyone I observe and all the people I listen to in coffee shops and all the people I've loved and found repellent, and the entire gamut in between...! So, you know, I'm pretty safely hidden. Please do not come up to me and ask me if I want to participate in questionable bondage threesomes because I must be Lisinthir, having written him.
Yes, that happened.
-_-
Seriously, don't do that. >.>
Next question?? *sweatdrops*

I was startled and pleased to see (if I read it right) a reference in Court of Dragons to several upcoming books focused on Surela. I've already been waiting eagerly for the novels carrying the Princes' Game/Her Instruments story forward. Are these Surela books in addition to those?

No question, but I must tell you that it's hard for me to give 5-star ratings to novels, because I was spoiled by authors like Sherri Tepper and Lois McMaster Bujold, whose worlds came alive in my hands and made each successive novel give me the desire to reach out and grasp the occupants and cry out with joy, "How ARE you!? Oh, what a JOY to see you again! What have you up to lately?" Yours are 5 stars! THANK YOU
