Casey Reed
Casey Reed asked Shannon Messenger:

When you come up with characters do you draw them before putting them into your story so you can imagine what they look like?

Shannon Messenger Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. It depends on how clearly I see the character in my head. If I have a super clear picture, I usually won't draw them, because I don't need to. But if I can't quite imagine what they look like, I'll play around with them on paper, trying different hair styles and outfits and facial expressions until I feel like I have a better idea. It's always really rough, though. The finished drawings I share on my website always come after I write the book.
