Goodreads asked Sam Conniff:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Sam Conniff I might come back to this one once the books out, but the best part about writing is the immense privilege it feels like to have time to disappear into your thoughts and do what Cal Newport describes as Deep Work. For someone used to being interrupted every five minutes and juggling sixteen things at once, which is how I've worked for the last 20 years running my own businesses. After that, writing feels decadent, indulgent and selfish, which I realise makes it sound like a 19th Century opium habit, except with less silk dressing gowns.
