Goodreads asked Janet Kay:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Janet Kay The inspiration for THE SISTERS began when I decided to winter on Galveston Island, Texas on the Gulf of Mexico. I fell in love with this place, with the many moods of the ocean, the old Victorian homes, and the island's fascinating history. I was especially intrigued with the Great Storm of 1900 which claimed over 8,000 lives. What if I wrote a book that flashed back and forth in time between this tragedy and life today on the island? What if I integrated the viewpoint of a spirit who died in the hurricane? And what if I introduced concepts of past lives and life on the other side? I was hooked. More importantly, I felt compelled to write a book that could make a difference in the lives of my readers, to help them expand their horizons above and beyond the confines of this world and this lifetime.
