T. Straker
T. Straker asked Charlaine Harris:

Hi Charaine, I have about 4 Sookie books on my shelf and haven't started reading them yet because I don't have the first one. I've seen the series, however, and I loved it. My question is, did you find it difficult to represent the southern accents in writing? Did you have to pull them back a lot so that people could understand them? It's something I hear a lot about. Many thanks. T

Charlaine Harris I never attempt to write dialect. It almost never works. I write dialogue in southern speech patterns, and that seems to work to convey the sense of place.
