Bonnie asked Lisa Wingate:

Lisa...Judy Stanford was named that by her adoptive parents, the Staffords. Since Avery Stafford is her grand daughter, it is assumed that Judy Stafford married at one point and had a son whose name was also Staffird. Did Judy marry a man with last name Stafford so she became Judy Stafford Stafford. I’m confused as to how Judy Stafford’s name carried over to her son??? Please clarify. I loved the book!

Lisa Wingate Hi Bonnie, So glad you loved the book. Judy was actually adopted as Judy Byers and later married Senator Stafford, who was Avery's grandfather, Avery's father also became a senator, in the tradition of political families.
