As a first time author, what motivates you to keep writing, even when you feel like quitting? I want to write another book, but self publishing is so hard! Any tips on how I can avoid Vanity presses?

I'm motivated by love (I love what I do and don't want to do anything else) and necessity (writing is my job, and if I don't write, I lose my job) ... and probably a few other things that we don't have room for here.
