A Goodreads user asked Mel Ingrid:

Hey Mel! (Finally found this lol) So, I have a few questions for you: -What books/fictional characters inspire your writing? -Favorite genre? -How long have you been writing? -Where do you like to write? -What did your publishing process look like. Any tips for an aspiring author? Thanks for your time, Yuan Yuan

Mel Ingrid Hi Yuan Yuan! Thanks for asking all these great questions.
I hardly had time to read while I was writing, but one of the books that inspired me while I was working on my novel was Turtles All the Way Down by John Green. It talks about mental health and I think the book portrays it pretty well, so that really helped me.

Some characters that inspire my writing (in general) are Natasha from The Sun is Also a Star, The Little Prince from The Little Prince, and John Watson from Sherlock.

My favorite genre is currently mystery - I love trying to figure out the situation before the character(s) does!

I've been writing seriously for about four years.

I like writing in my bed or on the couch, but when I have a heavy workload, I sit at my desk.

My self-publishing process was pretty hectic because it was my first time using CreateSpace. Their customer support is top notch, though!

My advice to any aspiring author is to find the reason. Find out what makes you want to write, and keep that in mind whenever you sit down at the computer or pick up a pen.
