Lots of fantasy creatures in your novels, sinus, ragas, ettins, vargyrs, are they researched from existing folklore or completely new? Maybe a bit of both?

Yeah! A few are pilfered from mythology (the chimera, the gorgon) a few are D&D classics (the owlbear, the ettercap) and some are homegrown creations (ragas, plague hawks, sinu).
