Alexandra asked Paul Tremblay:

Hi Paul! I just binge read The Cabin At The End Of The World. I'm gay and in a gay marriage and I have to tell you how nice it was to read about a family that represented my own experiences! What inspired you to make Eric and Andrew a gay couple? Was there a reason? It's really nice for gay people to read about gay characters in books where the point of the story is not that the characters are gay!

Paul Tremblay Thank you, Alex, for the kind note. I really appreciate it. While I'll admit that I wanted the book to work as a political allegory for our current socio-political predicament, I also just wanted to write a story about Andrew and Eric, both of whom came to life almost instantly in my head, as they're both amalgams of very important people in my life.
