Tayyibah asked Robert Beatty:

How much money is it to publish a book?

Robert Beatty In traditional writing/publishing, here's how it works:

1. You write a book, revise it, improve it, make it the best it can be.
2. If you are sure it is very good and it is publishable, then you try to find an agent for it. The agent should never cost you anything.
3. If you are lucky enough to find a good agent to represent you (very difficult), then the agent tries to sell your book to a publisher.
4. If you are lucky enough to get a publisher (very difficult), then the publisher pays you for the right to publish your book.

In traditional publishing, which I am describing here, the author never pays for the publication of a book. The author gets paid by the publisher.

In "Self-publishing", the author publishes his book using his own money. The cost varies tremendously.
