Goodreads asked Molly Fader:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Molly Fader I pick up inspiration for books like birds gathering things for a nest. I grab lots of bits and pieces that don't make a lot of sense and some get tossed and some get repurposed. The book I have in my head rarely looks like the book that ends up in reader's hands. For the McAvoy sisters I wanted to set it on the Great Lakes, because I love the Great Lakes so much. Lake Erie is shallow and a bit wild and I liked the correlation to Lindy, The Sister Who Left. I wanted to write about silence - particularly in families and how it erodes away the best in people. I also REALLY wanted to write about how we talk to kids about sex. Particularly girls. And how those conversations and in many cases LACK of conversation leaves girls vulnerable. And whitefish salad. Basically, this book is a love song to whitefish salad with lots of pepper. The way God intended....
