Hey Kathleen, I am a huge fan of your books! I'm in the process of writing a fiction book myself, and I wanted to ask you about your publishing experience. What were the steps you took after completing your manuscript? Also, how long did it take for your book to get published? Do you NEED an agent, and do you pay your agent while getting your book published or does that happen after? Thanks!

I strongly suggest you join a writing community. Everyone's journey to publication is unique, and you will find a writing community extremely helpful in guiding you. Yes, if you wish to go with a major publisher, as I did, you will need an agent. Most reputable agents work on commission. Hunt for one who loves your book. It takes perseverance on their part, too.
All of my books took differing times from start to publication. You see this is why a writing community is so important. There are chapters of Sisters in Crime, Mystery Writers, and Romance Writers of America in most major cities.
