Goodreads asked Catherine Greer:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Catherine Greer You guys! New writers! Please be encouraged: the world needs your book.

In fact, we need *so many* books. Consider this. It can take years to write a book and work through the (traditional) publishing process ... and a reader will read it in a few hours.

So if you're writing, and if you ever get discouraged when you stand in a bookshop or browse books online, remember how long it takes to write a book and how fast good readers are reading.

Also remember this: there is room for you at the author table. It's not only for the perfect people, or the gifted people or the best-of-the-best. If you love to write, then please write your book! Keep going. Start and finish it. The world needs to read it, and we can only do that if you don't quit.
