Why the long delay between 'Buried Secrets' and Guilty Minds'? We miss one of our all time favorite characters Nick Heller and would appreciate more books on him!-Dr K V K Murphy, MD.

I love Nick Heller, too, but one of the reasons I waited so long to start writing a series character was because I enjoy writing standalones so much. I never wanted to lock myself into something that would become a formula, or get tired of my series character. Moving back and forth between Nick's books and standalones keeps my mind sharp, and I hope it makes the Nick Heller books better. The book I'm writing now is a Nick Heller novel, and it's great to get back to him. Thanks for waiting!

Just read Vanished and I really enjoyed it. I will follow Nick Heller onto his next case in Buried Secrets. I am sorry about your dog. The great author Dean Koontz had a famous Golden Retriever who died and he moved on to get another dog. (Maybe his wife can convince yours.) You have many characters from your other books, so why did you choose to only do a series on Nick Heller?

I ripped through HIGH CRIMES and COMPANY MAN in two days. You write excellent, complex characters and have good pacing and structure in your books. I am looking forward to your new baby, SUSPICION. What draws you to thrillers? And would you ever consider writing outside the box? Like a good old-fashioned ghost or horror story?

Joe, Here comes my Ask-the-author-question for you. When an author is working on a story every day I guess they’re bound to start dreaming about their characters and plotlines at some point. I recently read an article about how some authors use their nightly dreams to improve upon their projects. Have you ever made changes to a character or a plot following a dream you had? Best, AJ
