I"m not sure what happened to the diamond. In the end, I honestly didn't care that much. I was far more interested in the people than in their possessions. I don't know what Doerr intended, but that's how the story affected me. I wept in the book's final chapters. The war, men, were so cruel. So very many people suffered, some still.(less)
