Goodreads asked Stephen Scarcliffe:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Stephen Scarcliffe I grew up around the inner city areas on the north side of Edinburgh. Much of the book stems from personal experience within that world.
The idea came from a fictional short story I wrote about a broken down, washed up drug dealer that had just walked free from a 10-year prison sentence, trying to reclaim his place amongst a vicious underworld that had moved on without him and now saw him as a target rather than a threat.
After some inspiring feedback from Irvine Welsh, I decided to take the story right back to its very roots. 1980s Muirhouse Edinburgh at a time when the area is in the grips of an AIDS and Heroin epidemic, showing the transition into a new era, the 90s when ecstasy and rave culture explodes, through the eyes of 3 up and coming young criminals.
