Grant asked Garon Whited:

Given the fact that it was shown in orb that Eric could exist as a naked soul, could he keep a clone body around as a spare, create a gem that could hold his soul, and teach Mary the spell to put him in it? That way she could catch his soul in the event of his death and take it to the soul swap table. Might only work in specific cases but it might make a good back up right?

Garon Whited You mean, it's shown that when Bronze, Firebrand, a couple of major magicians, and a priestess all get together with a lot of preparation and work to extract and contain him, he can temporarily exist outside the flesh? It's not exactly the most convenient method. And as a ghost--rather than as an ascended entity on the energy-state planes--he does tend to slowly diminish over time.
As for cloning him, we saw what happened when they tried to cram him into a mortal body. It might not be practical.
Oh, were you thinking of making a soulless vampire clone and having it lying around? How about we don't do that?
