So many! Early on, long before Dark Elves, I was a fantasy nut. So those classics like Tolkien, Herbert, Feist, etc. Then I found the women and my favorites there are Mercedes Lackey and Melanie Rawn.
Lackey taught me the excitement of a world with many characters and lands that I could visit over many, many books. I think she too further developed my sense of romance and introduced me to my first homosexual relationship. She might have been the most "key" to my development.
