Maggie Downs
Maggie Downs asked Lori Gottlieb:

I love how writing helps me figure out events in my own life or see threads that I didn't know existed before. What sort of epiphanies did you have while writing MAYBE YOU SHOULD TALK TO SOMEONE? Was there anything you didn't understand about yourself until you were in the process of writing this?

Lori Gottlieb Absolutely! I saw connections between myself now and then, as well as between myself and my clients--all in ways I hadn't before I started writing. I included them in the book, in comments interspersed throughout. One example would be about how I was facing my own mortality at midlife (and with the health issues) while treating Julie as she was dying. It was easier to go deeper into Julie's story and minimize my own, but then I realized the parallels on a deeper level and inserted more of mine in there. The book became much richer because of these connections.
