Christian Seaborn asked Charlaine Harris:

When submitting a work to agents is it permissible to say that the subject appeals across two genres? (In my case of the novel I am writing, it has a 14 year old protagonist but due to the subject matter and adult characters in the story) it could appeal to both YA and Adult.) Or is that a real no-no? (i.e., pick your genre and stick with it.) Thank you for your insights on this.

Charlaine Harris I can't think of any reason that wouldn't be permissible. I do think most YA novels aim to have adult readers too, these days.
