My first career choice was espionage, before I realized how much of espionage is drudge work — sifting through detailed economic reports, collecting data to look for pattern disruptions, etc. By the time I realized I'd rather write about that work than do it, I'd picked up a lot of information, but I'd also met a lot of people who do work in the field. They've been kind enough to answer my questions — in generalities, usually, not specifics — and I think they get a kick out of seeing their answers show up in my stories.

With the political world heating up (Ukraine, Putin rattling his saber, etc..) are you considering a new spy thriller/political thriller involving Russia? I love all your books, but "The Moscow Club" is still my favorite so I was wondering if you are going to return to some Russian spy/mystery thriller soon. Love your books!

Joe, Here comes my Ask-the-author-question for you. When an author is working on a story every day I guess they’re bound to start dreaming about their characters and plotlines at some point. I recently read an article about how some authors use their nightly dreams to improve upon their projects. Have you ever made changes to a character or a plot following a dream you had? Best, AJ
