Tim, I will have to read your book on the assassin who "started" WWI. My grandfather was in that war, on a ship, the US Mount Vernon, that was torpedoed off France in 1918. Your Liberia book was very good. I read it just after my second reading of Journey Without Maps. Great contrast.

Well let me know what you make of The Trigger - and well done for reading Journey Without Maps twice (not something that many people do) - the current events in upcountry Liberia are very Graham Greene-ish with the ebola outbreak outrunning the ability of the authorities to manage it. Where can I get a kindle of Chasing the Devil? Have searched high and low. Assume there is some contractual problems with them. Greene's book on Liberia / Sierra Leone is frankly terrible-- I stopped reading it when he adds a laundry list from social columns in a local paper. It was God awful for numerous reasons...he must have been learning to write as I like some of the later works. Read your Sarajevo book ..

I was wondering about the provisions you brought along on the trip. Graham Greene and his cousin had a large group of bearers to carry items such as food, whiskey and hammocks. You, on the other hand, appeared to eat whatever was at hand; bland chicken and rice, and even a tin of cat food (unknowingly). Why not bring along some of those freeze dried dinners that are so popular with backpackers?
