Ian Rankin:
I just finishef "A Legacy of Spies" by John Le Carrė. The plot uses an old case as a device to bring us into the past and at the same time explain how current events were shaped by the aftermath of this old operation gone pear-shaped. Could you see doing something similar with Rebus and Big Ger?

I really liked that le Carre. I can imagine doing something similar in the future with Rebus/Cafferty. Stay tuned.

I was wondering if you have any story ideas such as characters, items, or places that you've thrown out or given up on that I can use for one of my stories? The story that I'm thinking of is about an island where all story bits end up if they are thrown out or given up on. I've asked other authors so I can get a variety and some truth to the story. In “Let it Bleed” Rebus is talking in the North British, Edinburgh, with a US diplomat, Haldayne. Haldayne tells Rebus re something Rebus has just said; “That's hardly fair, is it? Hardly British." To which Rebus replies: "You're not in Britain now, Mr. Haldayne.” Is Rebus technically correct? Is Scotland not ranked part of Britain?
