Tia asked K.D. Edwards:

I was just reminiscing about how great The Last Sun was and checking to see if I misremembered the publishing date of The Hanged Man... unfortunately still some months to wait! In the mean time - do you have any books to recommend that you were inspired by? Or generally fantasy or m/m you particularly like with well developed lead & supporting characters? Thank you in advance :)

K.D. Edwards Hey there, Tianne! Well, good news is that HANGED MAN comes out on Dec 17 -- so we're close.

As for other GLBT+ books I love with strong characters? I really liked CARRY ON. I adored -- absolutely freaking adored - IN OTHER LANDS. If you like High Fantasy, the Nightrunner series isn't just a high bar, it is *the* bar. If you like superhero novels, Perry Moore's HERO was wonderful (and still consider Mr. Moore's death a profound loss to the world). If you like darker books that don't hesitate from triggers, the WARCHILD books are powerful, as is A COMPANION TO WOLVES. Another fantasy series that focuses on core characters -- two brothers, one gay -- is the MELUSINE quartet. Gregory Ashe has a wonderful YA modern day series called HOLLOW FOLK. MJ Lyons recently published a fantastic, inventive alternate history called MURDER AT THE WORLD'S FAIR. Ah! I almost forgot -- T. Frohock's NEFILIM books have a beautiful M/M romance at the heart of it, along with concepts of found family, and all of it wrapped in deeply-researched historical fiction.

I could go on and on. The MELUSINE books have the strongest bond between characters -- they were probably even a small influence on Rune and Brand. HERO's style of writing heavily influenced my own tendency to adopt a sparser writing style during fight scenes. WARCHILD and COMPANION TO WOLVES definitely influenced the darkness in my own writing. All of these are influences.

Anyway, I hope you check out HANGED MAN in December, and like it!
