A Goodreads user asked Stuart Gibbs:

Why do you always have SPYDER blowing things up? All the books except the 1st one and the 7th one involve missiles or bombs. Don’t you think it makes the books predictable? Don’t get me wrong, I love them; I’ve just always been curious about that. Maybe you just ran out of ideas? You’re a skilled writer; I don’t think that’s the case. :)

Stuart Gibbs In part, this is a nod to the James Bond movies, where the bad guy plots generally involved things along these lines. But it's also the nature of storytelling: SPYDER is trying to cause chaos and mayhem on a major scale, which typically is going to involve explosives. (Plus, explosives have countdowns, which are very dramatic.) Finally, even though many of the plots use missiles and explosives, I hope you'll admit that the actual plots themselves are quite different.
