I loved Tucson as a setting for your book. It brought back memories of when I used to hang out around those spots and you inspired some serious nostalgia in me. Have you seen the makeover Tucson (esp downtown) has undergone, and if so, what are your thoughts?

I have! I don't know if I have particular thoughts about the changes, except maybe ones that are influenced by my own nostalgia for a particular place and time. There are things I miss (the grungier aspects of the way it used to be), but neighborhoods change and new memories are made by the people inhabiting those spaces. Tucson will always be a special place for me. It appears in Girl in Pieces, How to Make Friends With the Dark, and an upcoming book.

I absolutely loved Girl in Pieces, as I could certainly relate, but my mom, when I suggested she read the novel to better understand what I was facing, had quite a different view. She believes the novel may have influenced my illness. Do you have any suggestions as to allowing parents to understand the separation between influencing and providing something to relate to?
