Goodreads asked Esme Addison:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Esme Addison I married into a first-generation Polish family. And as normal for me, whenever I am faced with something new, I launch into full research mode and learn everything I can about that subject. My adopted culture was no different. Falling in love with Polish food is a given, but I also learned so much about Polish culture and history and art and music... I knew that I wanted to create a story that incorporated some of my favorite elements of the culture but in a new and fresh way.

When I discovered the myth of the Mermaid of Warsaw, I knew immediately that I would be writing a story about mermaids! Initially, I thought it might be a science fiction story. But I'm a huge cozy mystery fan, and over time, A Spell For Trouble, a story about Polish-American family of women in a small coastal community in North Carolina was born!
